Rule of Three is an unconventional trio comprised of cello, harp, and piano. Their collective musical experience ranges from the international classical concert stage to classic rock band. Though their lives have taken them coast to coast and beyond, the common threads that tie them together are the love of music, willingness to experiment, and deep roots in Dayton, OH. Experience this unique classical music performance live at the Sorg!

Shelbi Wagner is Adjunct Professor of Cello at the University of Dayton and Sinclair Community College. She holds her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees with honors in Cello Performance from Miami University as a student of the late Steven Shumway, and has additional doctoral studies at the Ohio State University as a student of Mark Rudoff. Since moving to the Dayton area, she has been a regular performer with the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra, the Dayton Bach Society, and serves as Assistant Principal of the Lima and Springfield Symphonies. Ms. Wagner has performed internationally in Europe and Mexico, and has served as Assistant Principal Cello in such orchestras as Adrian, Hilton Head, Beaufort and Pueblo, among others. She participates in chamber ensembles, both professionally and personally, believing that music is as much an enjoyable part of life as it is a career and profession.

Lyn Miller Morton began her music career at age thirteen when she was asked to teach beginning organ students at the studio where she took lessons. Within a year she was playing the classical interlude to “Morning Has Broken” and “Colour My World” by ear and started playing for weddings. Lyn has accompanied choirs and solo contestants and played for a week on the Mississippi Queen with the Sammy Kaye Orchestra. She has been the organist at David’s United Church of Christ in Kettering for fifteen years and has played with Out of the Attic, a rock and roll band from Oakwood, since 2001.

Until recently, Jessica Schaeffer lived the adventurous life of a professional freelance harpist in the San Francisco Bay Area. Memorable moments from her career include performing with the National Symphony Orchestra of Bolivia, recording two albums with the harp-and-bassoon duo “The Harpoons”, ongoing collaborations with The Broken Consort, a Portland-based nationally-touring experimental chamber ensemble, and working with her beloved students. Originally from the Dayton, Ohio area, Jessica's formal education includes Interlochen Center for the Arts, Aspen Music Festival, Northwestern University (B.M.), Longy School of Music (M.M. & Dalcroze Education Certification).

This performance is made possible in part by generous grants from the Middletown Community Foundation and First Financial Bank.
