What’s Happening?

Come join us for a night of stargazing and science exploration at the Branched Oak Observatory! The Science Olympiad Star Party is a fantastic opportunity to observe celestial wonders through telescopes, learn about astronomy, and participate in fun hands-on activities. Whether you're a seasoned stargazer or just curious about the cosmos, this event is perfect for all ages. Don't miss out on this exciting evening under the stars!

We will also have Kona Ice available for purchase, serving up the most colorful shaved ice you ever did see!

FAQs:

1. Is this open to participants and families?

-Yes! We would love to have parents, siblings, grandparents, etc. join in the stargazing fun. The sign up has options for parents/families as well as coaches/teams. We would love to welcome all who are attending the Science Olympiad National Competition out to this kick off event!

 

2. Is the Branched Oak Observatory ADA accessible?

-Yes, it is completely ADA accessible.

 

3. What does parking at Branched Oak Observatory look like?

-There is ample parking for vans, buses, and regular vehicles alike at Branched Oak Observatory and they are used to the flow of traffic in and out with these types of vehicles.

 

4. How far is Branched Oak Observatory from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus?

-Branched Oak Observatory is located about 20 minutes outside of downtown Lincoln and UNL campus.

 

5. What is the plan for inclement weather?

-The event will take place during rain, as there is ample space inside the main pavillion with plenty of indoor activities as well. As long as there is no lightning, the event will go on as planned. Please plan to provide the contact information for ONE adult on your team/in your party so we can communicate any weather changes.

 

6. Do we have to stay the full time from 7-11 PM?

-This is a come as you wish event, so there is no obligation to be there the whole time. There will be a wide variety of activities that we invite you to take part in, both during the sunlight hours as well as when the night sky appears, so take advantage of as much or as little as you would like.

 

7. When do we need to sign up by?

-The sooner the better, however we will take registrations for this event up to 48 hours before. Please register by the end of the day on Tuesday, May 20th.
