Botanical Book Club: Into Thin Air

Community Club Literature Storytelling

What’s Happening?

Got a love for books and the outdoors? Join fellow readers and nature enthusiasts as we explore various topics in our botanical book club.

Journey to the world’s highest peak in Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer, a gripping nonfiction account of the 1996 Mount Everest disaster. Through vivid storytelling, Krakauer captures the breathtaking beauty and unforgiving power of the natural world while exploring the challenges of climbing in one of Earth’s most extreme environments. This compelling discussion will explore the majesty of Everest, the limits of human endurance, and the delicate balance between adventure and nature’s forces. Discover how this remote mountain landscape can inspire awe, test human resilience, and remind us of the immense power of the natural world.

Three sessions: January 6 from 6 to 7 p.m. (handout books and introductory discussion), January 20 and February 3 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Books will be given to participants at the first session. Classes will be held in-person and will move to Zoom in the event of inclement weather. Pre-registration is required at least one week in advance of the first session.

Cost: $40 | Garden members receive 20% off.
