As an extension of her exhibition currently on view, Thoughts in Fiber: Works by Deborah A. Moore Harris, Deb Harris will lead this quilting workshop in the NCHM Gallery.

Participants are led in this special workshop celebrating the rich history and artistry of African American quilting, a generational tradition. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the cultural significance of quilting within the African American community, explore unique techniques, and even try their hand at creating their own quilting square, also known as "mug rugs," using provided materials in the Quilt in a Jar.

Whether you're an experienced quilter or new to the craft, this workshop offers an opportunity to connect, create, and be part of a vibrant quilting tradition. Join us for this special opportunity to share stories, skills, and participate in the community spirit of quilting.

This in-person workshop is recommended for ages 12+ and limited to 25 seats. Quilting materials are provided.

Free parking is available behind the Museum; accessible from W 23rd St.

About the Neill-Cochran House Museum

The Neill-Cochran House Museum is an independent nonprofit that preserves and reflects the experience of some of Austin’s earliest residents. Built in 1855, the house and slave quarters and the collections they display shed light on the local, individual, and political history of our always-growing city. Today, the Museum features rotating exhibits, a speaker series called "Modern Times," and free monthly events for the entire family. The main house is among the oldest residences still standing in Austin. The site is also home to the only remaining intact slave quarters in the city.
