Celebrating Indigenous Stories: A Family Day

Children's Museums

What’s Happening?

Room to Read invites families across Tahlequah and the Cherokee Nation community to a joyful celebration of reading, storytelling, and Indigenous voices. The Indigenous Children's Book Celebration brings children and the adults who read with them together for a hands-on, family-friendly event featuring books by Indigenous creators from different Nations, including the Cherokee Nation.

Read-alouds from the collection will take place throughout the afternoon, so families can drop in anytime, settle in for a story, and enjoy the activities at their own pace.

Free books for every child: Each child who attends will receive a free book from the collection to take home and add to their family's library. The books come from Room to Read's Indigenous Children's Book Collection, a series of stories by Indigenous authors and illustrators from Nations across North America, co-published with Black Bears and Blueberries Publishing.

Art and craft activities: Get creative alongside the authors and illustrators behind the books! Children and families can meet the creators as they lead hands-on art and craft activities inspired by the stories, sharing their favorite tricks for bringing characters and ideas to life on the page. No experience needed, just bring your imagination.

Refreshments and snacks: Light refreshments and snacks will be provided for all attendees.

The event is free, and no registration is required. [Optional: https://events.humanitix.com/roomtoread]
