Celebrate Black Artists! A series of classes introducing children to black artists and art. This series is open to children in grades Kindergarten-2nd grade.This series is open to children in grades Kindergarten-2nd grade.

This session is about the life and art of the amazing Faith Ringgold. Faith Ringgold is a black american painter, writer, mixed media sculptor, and performance artist, best known for her narrative quilts. In this class, Ms. Nyale will introduce the students to Faith Ringgold through her accomplishments, art, and her book "Tar Beach". Ms. Nyale will take them through a mini Faith Ringgold gallery and read and discuss the themes in "Tar Beach. After the learning portion of the class, students will create a story quilt. They will use colored pencils to illustrate a place (real or imaginary) they would go if they could fly and will use fabric scraps as a border for their "quilt".
