What’s Happening?

Opera Omaha kicks off its 2023/24 season with the 11th annual Opera Outdoors on Friday, September 8 at 7:00 pm in Turner Park at Midtown Crossing.

Opera Outdoors will feature live performances by Opera Omaha’s Holland Community Opera Fellows, Jazmin Salberrios and Alejandra Sandoval-Montañez, as well as special guests Soprano Rachel Blaustein, Tenor Adrian Kramer, baritone Luis Ledesma and the Opera Omaha Chorus, comprised of local artists. Opera Outdoors will be conducted by Opera Omaha’s Head of Music, Josh Quinn and directed by Frances Rabalais with lighting by Aaron Craig, and will be hosted by KVNO personalities Gabriel Escalera and Jeff Koterba.

Before the concert begins groups from Ollie Webb Inc., the Gotta Be Me Heartlight Choir, and the Intercultural Senior Center will perform as opening acts beginning at 7:00 PM.

The opera program will include selections composed by opera greats Giuseppe Verdi, Mozart, Puccini as well as others and features many familiar and new songs from the opera canon. Lawn chairs, blankets and refreshments are encouraged. A rain date of Saturday, September 9 is also scheduled.

Opera Outdoors is a FREE, family-friendly outdoor concert featuring a sampling of opera’s greatest hits and previews of Opera Omaha’s upcoming season. The concert is open to the public; no tickets are necessary, and this year’s event will be hosted in English and Spanish. In addition to spectacular singing, the evening will include pre-concert activities in the popular FREE Kid’s Zone, featuring balloon animals, arts and crafts station and lawn games for all ages.
