What’s Happening?

Does your family enjoy outdoor games and friendly competition? If so, Family Adventure Days is for you!

Take aim and perfect your shot with a brief Archery 101 course (for ages 8+), then engage in a family-friendly competition!

After the competition, join a naturalist and explore the Forest on a guided hike at Camp Wa-Kon-Da, during which you will learn the rich history of Fontenelle Forest and some basic hiking and survival tips (e.g. basics of animal tracking, how to ID animal scat, what to do if you get lost in the wilderness.)

Camp Wa-Kon-Da features miles of trails on a variety of terrain – climb up to the ridgetops or explore deep in the hollows. This camp has a rich history of human civilization, from the Nebraska Phase people to explorers like Lewis and Clark!

This event will take place from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The hike will last about 1 hour and traverse easy to moderate terrain.

Social distancing guidelines will be followed. Masks will be required whenever attendees cannot maintain a 6-foot distance from one another. Signed liability waiver required to participate in archery.

Maximum of 18 participants. Pre-registration is required. Members must sign in to receive discount.

Event pricing:

More about Fontenelle Forest
Founded in 1913, Fontenelle Forest is one of Nebraska's oldest conservation organizations and one of the largest private nature centers in the nation. This federally designated 501(c)(3) non-profit public charity is a National Natural Landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Sites. Fontenelle Forest owns and manages two nature centers: Fontenelle Forest Nature Center in Bellevue and Neale Woods in Omaha. The properties encompass over 2,100 acres of forest, prairie and wetlands along the Missouri River in the geographically significant Loess Hills. The mission of Fontenelle Forest is to provide a place where people can experience and enjoy the quiet wild of nature. We want to inspire current and future generations to care for the natural world.
