What’s Happening?

Join us on July 8th for a conversation with Cornelius Carter, whose solo exhibition The Struggle and the Glory: The American Experience is on view at the Neill-Cochran House Museum through September 5, 2021. Carter will discuss his working process and the research and inspiration behind several of the works on view, including Death of a King, Slave Auction, and Jacob Fontaine. Carter painted Jacob Fontaine specifically for display in this exhibition.

Taking his inspiration from multiple traditions, Cornelius weaves together imagery from history, mythology, childhood, and life experience to create paintings that are thought-provoking, captivating, and beautiful. He often incorporates historical elements and classical styling, but from his own cultural perspective. People and their relationships are a central theme in his work.

This event will take place indoors. For the safety of guests, speakers, and staff we request that anyone not fully vaccinated for COVID-19 wear a mask.
