THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELLED!

This is what the event owner said:

Outdoor Movie Night, scheduled for 7/31, has been POSTPONED on account of rain. If you are interested in attending the rescheduled event, please email our office staff at brittany@pihkc.com. She will make sure you are notified of the new event date! The scattered thunderstorms expected this Saturday put a damper on our outdoor movie night, but we know our local farmers will be grateful for the rain :) We look forward to sharing this beautiful story with you and helping you connect with regenerative farms in the KC area!

Premier Integrative Health, Five Mile Farms, Compost Collective, After the Harvest and Brookeside Farmer’s Market are all awesome organizations in KC that are extremely passionate about reducing food waste, supporting their community, protecting the environment, and finding new solutions for old problems… or rather, old solutions for new problems. Learn more about each of these organizations below!

Our goal is to help Kansas Citians connect with local regenerative agriculture farms. These farmers are on a mission to provide high-quality produce and animal products, preserve our native prairies and replenish the soil of our planet.

Premier Integrative Health

Premier Integrative Health is a unique medical practice that uses Integrative and Functional medicine to get to the root cause of our patient's concerns. We focus on the prevention and reversal of disease as opposed to managing symptoms. Our team of doctors, health coaches and dietitians address all aspects of health including nutrition, movement and emotional wellbeing. We create a partnership with our patients to help them achieve their health goals and live the best life they can.

Five Mile Farms

Five Mile Farms is a local farm in La Cygne, KS that practices regenerative agriculture. Regenerative Agriculture not only produces extremely high-quality meats but is also the prescription to replenish our soil and save our planet. Their farming practices work with the carbon cycles of nature to rebuild the ecosystems that ultimately support their family and broader communities. Five Mile Farms is driven to rebuild the health of Kansas soil and leave it in better shape for future generations.

Compost Collective KC

This awesome organization is composed of a small group of caring citizens who want to make composting easy for you and keep food out of landfills. They’ve created a curbside compost pick-up service in the KC area to help reduce food waste & replenish the soils of our community. They are in partnership with Missouri Organic and local farms; after picking up food scraps from your home, they deliver it to these local farms where it is transformed into nutrient-dense compost that will be used to grow MORE nutritious food… and the cycle begins again!

After The Harvest

This incredible organization works to reduce waste by rescuing produce (tossed because of minor imperfections) and distributing it to those who need it most. This way it ends up on hungry families’ tables, instead of in a landfill or rotting in the field. Thanks to thousands of volunteers, growers and financial donors, After the Harvest, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, brings apples, berries, squash, tomatoes, lettuce, carrots, potatoes, peaches and many other kinds of healthy fruits and vegetables, completely free of charge, to agencies feeding our hungry neighbors in the KC community.

Brookside Farmers’ Market

The Brookside Farmers’ Market isn’t just any farmers’ market, it is a community. The market serves as a bridge between Kansas Citians and their local food source. All of BFM’s vendors are the actual farmers and makers. You will find no middle man at this market! Those who grow, raise or make every product are the ones who sell it to you directly. All products found at this market are sourced within 100 miles of Kansas City. Most importantly, the Brookside Farmers’ Market vendors are committed to practices that steward our dirt, water, and natural resources. Brookside Farmers’ Market takes place every Saturday morning at HJ's Youth and Community Center from 8:00 am- 1:00 pm.

What is Regenerative Agriculture?

Regenerative Agriculture describes farming and grazing practices that, among other benefits, reverse climate change by rebuilding soil organic matter and restoring degraded soil biodiversity –- resulting in a delicious and ultra nutritious protein source!

Why should you choose to support local farms that practice regenerative agriculture?

Not only do modern industrial farming practices limit the nutritional value of our food, but they also diminish the microbial diversity, available nutrients, and the quantity of the soil itself. However, there is hope!

A number of farming practices that sustain our bodies, the earth, and other creatures that inhabit it are being studied and undertaken all over the world. Regenerative Agriculture can regenerate the health of the soil and the foods that grow within and upon it. Holistic land management practices leverage the natural power of the sun, plants, microorganisms, and large herbivores to create a sustainable, resilient cycle that is good for the planet and the human population.

Opting for locally raised & produced food ensures that it stays packed with its intended and initial nutrients (and flavor!). Buying local helps strengthen communities because when you buy directly from the farmer, you are building a relationship while also supporting local farmers who provide for you as much as they provide for their own families.
