What’s Happening?

Description

Global Village Market is an outreach of Greenland Hills United Methodist Church. With its debut market in 2007, the idea was to bring together three things:

The passions of GHUMC members.
The need of local and global non-profits.
The desire of local residents to experience a unique holiday shopping experience that makes a difference in the world.

Shoppers can buy napkins from a sewing school in Eastern Congo, tamales from Emanuel Community Center, donate to help train residents of South Dallas to install solar technology, and buy handmade ornaments that fund wells in the developing world.

History

Greenland Hills UMC debuted Global Village Market in 2007. In those 14 years, we have raised $414,340 for non-profits locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally. Our biggest year was 2017, when we raised $43,156. Even during our slimmed-down 2020 version, we raised $21,388.

How it works

A church member brings in a non-profit they work with or are passionate about. Whether they are selling items or asking for donations, the non-profit has a table at GVM, hopefully with the help of the church member. All money goes to that non-profit with GHUMC keeping none of it.

We will have live music, whole homemade pies to go, tamales and chili to go, and package food from our youth group.

COVID protocol

Most of our vendors will be outside on the church lawn. Those inside will be distanced. Masking and self-monitored social distancing will be required inside and suggested outside. Masks will be available for those who need them. Check-out will be inside, with a waiting area outside.
